Just today I bought a whole complete Banks Sidewinder kit from a guy and it only has about 10,000 miles on the turbo since the installation (done by his local Ford dealer) I am going to go pick it up tommorrow. Question is this: he does not have any of the paper work that came with the kit, things I really need, like the installation instructions so that I don't screw anything up. I want this to come out like it is supposed to so how can I get a set of instructions? does anybody have any laying around they wouldnt mind giving up or making a copy of?
Thanks, Rob
Don't know if Banks has instructions on their website or not.
ATS has the instructions on their site for all turbo kits.
Well, I just went to ATS a couple minutes ago, they have a new website, so I am not sure the older instructions are still there.
Right again Dave, I did go on the site before and did not see it, went back again and did manage to find the manual and instructions, next week I will be doing the install.
Thanks
I installed my Sidewinder back in '98. Read the directions 2X before install. The directions are perfect. The Banks tech line told me to follow the exact directions and do not assume/skip anything. They have more problems with 'professional' mechanics who do not follow directions. The install was flawless. I'm a fair backyard mechanic and am religious about following directions. Total time was about 10 hours of work. The Banks tech line is great too. Have fun!
I have the instructions to mine still. I can always copys them and mail them to you or scan them and send you high reselution photos of them. Just pm me or post here on how you wan't to get them.
a quick hint .
before you start the install, remove everything from the firewall seam lip, take a big hammer, and roll the lip as far up as you can.
this will give you the extra inch or so you will need to make everything fit without needing a 3 year old to bolt things together for you.
Well I think I have everything that was supposed to come with the kit, I am glad now that I printed the instructions online and took them with me or I would not have gotten a couple of brackets. In a couple of weeks I will start putting everything together (vacation starts today) and will probably have more questions when I start.
One thing first is, it tells you from the start to turn up the ip pump but really does not say how much, what are you guy's running as far as how many flats of the allen wrench.
Thanks
Manual I believe says clockwise to increase fuel. I have been working off and on all day cleaning everything up, a lot of grease and just junk on everything. I did get a pyro gauge with it but not a boost gauge, where is a good place to find one besides getting one from Banks that will fit the pressure housing?
Thanks
You should have either a 5013 or 5028 IP depending on your transmission.
You should have an external fuel screw on the drivers side rear top of the IP.
Screw with a lock nut around it at a 45 degree angle leaning to the rear.
Loosen the locknut while holding the screw with a screw driver, turn the screw out 1 turn to start, then tighten the lock nut and go for a drive.
You should have black smoke before you get it out 2 turns.
