I went to where I work this morning to use a hoist to put new axle seals in the front of my truck, after getting both axle shafts and the carrier out I learned that autovalue sold me the wrong axle seals. I borrowed the shop truck and went back, of course they don't have them in stock and niether does O'rielly, they can have the seals for tuesday. great. Leaving the truck in the shop wasn't an option, so I put it back together without axle shafts or a carrier and pulled the front drive shaft so it wouldn't turn the pinion dry and drove it home. I'll try napa tomorrow. I'm sick of this crap, autoparts stores suck, full of idiots, the store is only as good as thier computer system, the people behind the counter arn't paid to think, just do, like mcdonalds....
Ok I'm done ranting now, I'm going to head for the mall...
I work at a napa auto repair center, and yes, you do have some winners haha. Don't get me wrong, there are some really good parts men still out there, but the problem is that they don't work all the time. But really why wouldn't they have those axle seals in stock? I would think all dana 44s use the same ones.... There are TONS of dana 44s on the road. Sorry, ranting again.....
I got four to choose from here Napa, Checker, Autozone and Parts Plus. I usually go to parts plus cause the other three dont usually have what I need and Parts Plus has had the same manager since my dad was a kid so they know what theyre doin.
well we have a napa, autovalue, o'riellys, and car quest. Car quest is by far the best, but their hours suck, mon-fri 8-5. The other three just plain suck. I get deals at all of them through work, but I get the best deals at napa. I have some spare stuff, a few u-joints, a bearing and seal kit for the rear, you just can't have everthing.
Straightsix4x4: Atleast you can crawl around the mall... My slave cylinder for the clutch just took a crap... Its like an 80 dollar part, but i have to pull the trans to replace it... Add the fact that i dont have an impact here... and everything is coated in mud... = a very bad day coming my way...
Truckin, I've heard that happens on those, not one for Fords more shining engineering moments. I remember a guy that I used to work with going through the same thing on a 92 150.
Yea ive replaced it before its not really a hard job, just time consuming... And a real P.I.T.A. drive shafts transfer case cross member then tranny... All have to come out, not so bad, but with not impacts, it sucks...
Ive been through the same thing on the 85 make sure ya get a new line when ya do it cause thats what was bad on mine and I thought it was the slave cylinder but it was fine and I went through four of em that I tough were bad but all are good. Turns out the line was split and bleedin off the pressure.
