cowl induction hood project
On our Nascar Modifieds that we build, we call it a tourqe arm, but we also use coil overs and bird cages to mount them.....any how, why not pick another hood up to try this experiment on? that way you still got your good hood incase things don't go so well?
Just a thought
Here's another thought. On my horse trailer, I have flip open vents above each of the horses heads. You can open them frontwards or backwards to either scoop air in or suck air out. They have a rubber gasket around the opening so they're water tight when closed.
In theory, you could jusr cut the hole in the hood, pop one of these in with it's gasket (like a rear pick-up window) and hook up a choke cable. They are spring loaded in a way so they don't get blown open/closed on the highway, but you could probably undo that for cable activation.
I looked some up on the web a year ago. I'll try to find them again and send the link.
Just a thought.

Yeti, thanks for the idea, I kinda cheaped-out though and used a piece of steel metal to "test" the install, slightly thicker, but would hold the very slight "bow" that the hood has. Worked out better than I thought it would! Water entering may still be a problem to work out, but thought I would look for or make flat covers with magnets, or the magnetic sign stuff, for when it's parked, if I go this way. If I can "liberate" our camera from my girlfriend for a day or two-it's ours, but mostly her's! I'll take some pics and post 'em, still want to get some pics of the finished install of the torque arm (which it 'tis correctly called!). Got Performance Unlimited to make me one from DOM tubing that matches the silver/gray finish of their trac-bar that I have on, works better than expected and looks good to.
K, this was such a great idea that I did check out several different places to see what was out there. Unfortunately, all had domes that seemed to stick up rather high and none were actually clear-if you know of a low-profile, less than 1" when closed, with a clear lens, please let me know, this would be the "ticket" as it were! Reason being, I can't really give up any visability over the hood, have 3" of lift with 35's and no real spotter-she's gettin' better, but these things take practice!
'Stang-Thanks a bunch for the offer, if I could make it fit the '79 I'd take you up on the offer just to have 2 hoods to play butcher with!! Only kidding-sort of! Again, Thanks to all
Chuck
