1970 f-600 dump with ignition problems
A few days ago i bought a 1970 f600 dump tuck with the 300 engine. It did have a slight misfire so i decided to change the plugs and wires to see if anything would change. I started it back up again and it was still misfiring so i checked to see if i had the sequence right and didn't mix up any wires ( i changed the plugs and wires one at a time so that i could keep the original order). after looking at the stamped sequence on the intake manifold and looking at the sequence on the distributor cap i realized that none of the number matched up. I changed everything and now the truck

I drove it from my shop to my house to change the plugs and wires but I realized i had the cylinders numbered wrong in my head...i dont know what was wrong with me, it was a stupid mistake. The truck runs now but i have to have the choke half way out so it doesn't die on me. It seems really underpowered now too.

Did you rotate the dizzy? Maybe the way they had it had the timing where they needed it? Have you put a timing light on it?
Sounds like it has fuel issues, but since you played with wires it's worse?

Ya its definitely worse, i doubt it has enough power to even drive. Ill have to check the timing tonight even though i didn't intentionally mess with the distributor. I think youre right about fuel issues too because when i pump the gas its not so bad.

If the timing is retarded, it will be real lazy and lack power. BUT, if the timing is good, then the fuel is the next thing to check. I just mentioned the timing since your working on that part. Might as well cover the bases as you go.
