1996 F150 Warn manual locking hubs leaking
The left hub is leaking grease between the hub and chrome part of the manual hub. I assume there is a seal that went bad? This happened about 30000 miles ago or so as well. I had a shop repack the bearings and put in new seals then. My Chilton manual really doesn't go in to much detail.
Times are tough and money is tight and I want to try it myself. What is involved in replacing this seal? I have never worked on a 4x4, other than general maintenance. Will I need special tools? Are there good photos and a procedure here on FTE? Great site by the way, it has helped me out more than the Chilton manual!

I got the same thing going on with my Warn hubs. If you grab them and shake them a bit they move. I can not get them tight enough. As far as a seal there is a large o-ring that goes around the lockout hub, but the is no actual seal anywhere between the bearing and hub. The only seal in the rear seal for the inner bearing. See if you can grab your hub and wobble it. I have seen quite of few of the Warn hubs do this.

I have Warn premium hubs on my truck, So I have done this a few times.
There are 6 screws that hold the cap onto the spindle.
Use a 3mm allen wrench to remove the screws.
Pull on the cap and remove it.
Check your o ring, it may be cracked or even broken.
Call Warn and ask for a replacement o ring. The cost should be minimal.
Pull off the old o ring, Clean the groove to remove and dirt or debris, Replace the o ring, Grease lightly and push it back into the spindle.
Put the screws back in and just snug them up, No need to torque them down or the caps will snap off.

i had this problem with my 86 f150. the chrome cap was loose and leaking grease. took apart the hub and couldn't find a problem other than normal wear to the axle circlip. i put a shim under the circlip which tightened it a bit, and then just wrapped a bit of black duct tape around the gap to keep it from drooling and rattling.
