transmission help

ok so my trans is kinda worn out has a hard time shifting occasionally and just doesnt sound right...so i was thinking rebuild but thats a bit far away before i can afford that cause im still broked. so i was gonna try and find a low mileage junkyard transmission to slap in there.right now it has the m5OD i think is what its called...its a mazda 5 speed anyways and i was wondering if i should throw another one of them in there or do a zf? i do a fair amount of offroadin i got 31x10.5s stock gears and a 4.9L i plan to jump a few tire sizes (35x12.5) next springand 4 inch lift. which transmission is better on fuel?, for towing, commuting, 4wheeling. basically a comparison so i know which i should look for.

any comments appreciated

I'd be interested in the experts recommendations here too , I have the same eng and trans and they are just really weak both the clutches and the trans. Think ford thought we wouldn't pull things with em !
