This is the way I also feel about about this situation. I'm not working for anyone under these conditions. I would simply work up until quitting time on my last day, hand them the keys, and tell them you've found a job where it's appreciated for being early instead of being accused of stealing.

I've gotta agree with KT on this one. As far as not burning that bridge, IMO, the company doused the bridge in gasoline when they accused you of theft so you just need to flick the match and let it go up in smoke.

Just think of it this way, what kind of reference do you think you'd get from them after this incident? I doubt it'd be very favorable if they jumped to the conclusion that you stole something from them instead of them just misplacing it because in the minds of some folks, if you give them a reason to believe you stole from them, (whether it's real or not), you'll always be under suspicion in the future.

Be the bigger man and give them the standard 2 weeks. They'll want to be pissed at you, but won't be able to as you will follow accepted protocols.

If you just quit, they'll get the satisfaction of argueing with you. But if you give them the 2 weeks all they can do is stew in thier own anger.

I would add in my letter of resignation something about being accused of theft and I would not do anything outside of my responsibilties such as train my replacement unless they were going to pay me more for that time.

another vote for King triton and craig (kermydog) I would work until quitting time, even work harder and more productive than ever than at 5:00 I would set my keys on the basses desk and tell him I am no longer employed here and have a nice day.

I'm with the guys saying hang in. If you run..there will be a cloud, earned or perceived.
I know well the scar of false accusation. I live it daily.
Don't give them the satisfaction if you've done nothing wrong and let them look!
If you leave you'll always wonder and so will they..."I did nothing wrong but they think I did."!!!!
That burn will haunt you everyday.
That's my input....Jared.
You want to leave on your own, so be it.
Let it be your choice....not a cloud of suspicion.
This is not me saying you've got anything to hide, Jared.
Don't give them the benifit.

I wish- Nah, this is just a volunteer position. Fulfilling, but not a source of income.

I do have my 1-year anniversary coming up, I get a week of paid vacation so I think I'll take that and then tell them I'm not coming back.

Write your own recommendation and have it signed by someone other than the one that leveled the accusation against you. I am assuming there are other people in leadership roles besides the big boss. You should get something out of your time there, besides an acusation.

If you dont do your week vacation and dont come back thing, I would give em a week notice.

Ask yourself if you need that reference from them and if they would give you a good reference when asked.

I have had to quit jobs where I have given a month notice, and a few I have given three days notice, and a couple where i said at the end of the work day I would not be coming back.

It all depends on the employer and the situation.

Also, regarding your incident with the theft there, I would have called the labor board, told them about that.

You guys really think an employer who would stoop that low as to accuse somebody of theft without probable cause, would give a good reference? I highly doubt it, more then likely he will have an attitude because now he has a position he has to fill. If this boss had been a man and said,,,Hey,I made a mistake, I apologize,,then hey, all should be forgiven,,but no,,he didnt. So, he doesnt deserve anything better then what he dished out,,,and the last thing I would want would be a reference to that clown on my resume,,,,

I agree with ya KT.

But not knowing the thread starter, and not knowing if hes a young fella, or an old fella its hard to say if ya need a reference.

When I was younger, people wanted to talk to your previous employer, didnt matter if you told them that you would get a bad reference or not.

Any time you start dealing with a lawyer, you need to ask yourself this. If I am the lawyer,,whats in it for me,,how much money can I make, does the person hiring me have lots of money, does the other guy have lots of money? I have as of yet to meet a lawyer who has taken on a case on principle,,they are ALL in it for money. And besides,,,unless there was written documents accusing theft, then no lawyer would take on that case "Noll Contend re",,,In other words,,no money down. If you did find one who would take it,he would only be taking it to suck the money out of your wallet,,,

In my field references usually aren't a big deal since steelworkers work all over. Having said that, I don't know that I would trust references since a company looking to unload someone could tell you what a great worker they were, and leave you to deal with the problem. Or they could give bad reviews to wipe out a chance for you to leave.
I just don't know what kind of underhanded crap I might run into with them, I have seen them do dirty things to people before, and just do not trust them.

Iam not sure what i would do in a case like this Ford_Six...every company has its good and bad side. What I hate about the company that I work for could fill a book. The only reason I stay is because its close, the pay is not bad,and most of the people I work with are real good people.I find that companies are kind of like officials you vote into government, they seem to be fair, good people till you vote them in or start to work for them, then their true colors come out.You sound like an intelligent person, and a caring one,do what you feel is right.Good luck in your next job !!!
