Ford has spent millions perfecting the hvac systems on their vehicles. If for some strange reason i didn't want the compressor running i would turn the system to off. For safety and cabin comfort the compressor needs to run as designed. Fuel savings being so small they are not even measurable i would no way cut up the wiring on a 55000$ vehicle. When i need to save gas and minimize my carbon footprint i drive my 08 corvette which gets 30 mpg on the highway. That is with the climate control on at 80 mph. Isn't carbon footprint even a funnier word than global warming! I must have a good laugh now.
So you're trying to tell me ksCRUDE that if I was on a test track with my windows up, going the same speed, with the same wind conditions, the same temperature, humidity, etc, I will get better mileage with my compressor running & putting more load on my engine, which in turn means that the accelerator has to be depressed further to maintain the same speed, even if it is only 2% more of a load??? Hummm. I'm just not following the logic here. Maybe I should pull a 10k trailer around everywhere so I can get even better mileage. And don't worry, I DO have a real job.
You may need more then a compressor kill switch to outrun a bowtie duramax and they will be riding in ac comfort. And on less fuel to boot. we all need to care about are carbon footprints.
KS, Citypol86 asked an honest & intelligent question. Folks here have given their opinion, MOST of whom are trying to provide intelligent dialog & help out, rather than be a smart alec. It's almost like you are making fun of the notion of trying to save a little fuel. I guess not everybody can afford an 08 Corvette to drive as an economy car/playtoy.
Other than the AC settings, the switch will only help when the defroster is running. The compressor doesn't engage in the heat position. The only time I run my defroster is when I also really need the dehydration benefits of the AC, so I don't see how a compressor switch would really make much difference.
Regarding those carbon footprints, what are carbons and how do you track them? Can we shoot them in season???
The compressor doesn't run on heat or vent settings. This is why I like a switch:
-As previously stated, the main reason is to reduce wear & tear on the compressor
-Reduced load, which means more economy, even if it is a tiny bit
-Sometimes it's a comfortable temp outside but the windows fog up. Turning on the defroster makes them fog up on the OUTSIDE because the air is too cold. Meanwhile it's too hot to increase the air temp inside the vehicle.
That's what I do & it works well for me. No check engine light, engine acts perfectly normal because the PCM adjusts the idle speed on its own. That's my story & I'm stickin' to it.

KSCRUD, you're an ignor-anus, that's a dumb-***. Oops, I broke a forum rule. Sorry, everyone. Also remember, CRUD, I might not be running from your cute little bowtie. Just food for thought, if you're capable.
I thank everyone else for the valid input. I think I'll check to see when the compressor actually is running, whether it be in all seeting but vent, heat, or whatever.
Thanks again.
