My buddies at mustangforums.com arnt helping me much lol. They just wanna make fun of my truck.
Its been awhile since i posted here and yes I still have the truck. Just yesterday I went to start the truck and it starts then dies immediatly. I recently installed a stereo about 5 days ago, ran great then, didnt drive it for about 2 days and I went to drive it yesterday and it just kept starting and stalling. Its had a full tune-up a few months ago? Its a stock 302 with nothing done to it besides dual exhaust dumped at the axle. Oh yeah i just replaced the fuel filter so it cant be that, also its getting lots of gas, it has plenty of pressure.
Could be your ignition switch. What's happening is you are getting power to your ignition when the key is in the "start" position but then no power when you release the key and it returns to the "on" position. Check to see if there is power to the ignition when the switch is on.
I thought I had the ignition switch eliminated when i jumped it from the starting solonoid? Anyway i can hotwire it before i say its the ignition switch? Also, where is the ignition switch? lol

wait a sec? you see how my ALT light comes on when i turn the key on, like power altogether? I have my stereo wired thru a switch temporarly causr they guy who had the truck before me has alot of wiring goin on, so I just did that till I can run new wires. But can i like hot wire it? lol
I dont know how to hotwire anything but if you tell me the wires to touch I can try it.
Look down the throat of the carb and pull the throttle back. Do you see 2 streams of gas shoot out onto the venturis? It's catching when you shoot it with ether, which makes me curious if it's really getting fuel or not. You mentioned there is fuel pressure, but do the test I mentioned.
Did you look down the throat of the carb like I mentioned?
I can hear it firing for a short while, so obviously the coil is getting power.
It sounds like it has power while cranking, but not in run position to me from video. Should still check for fuel though in carb, but he did spray starting fluid in I believe and that did not do anything.

I havent done really anything, I have all day today to mess with it. And yeah starting fluid doesnt change anything, it wants to fire but then dies right as I let off the key. I can keep it running while holding the starter but I know it cant be good for the starter so that is saying something about the switch right there.
alright, i have an update... it wasnt getting any power to the coil when it was ON, so i ran a wire from that wire to the + terminal of the battery, thing fired right up. So its the ignition switch. Thanks for the help fast farmer! Im waitin for schucks to open up so I can grab a switch. Also the motor was idle'n at about 3,500rpms, do you think its from all the fuel in the carb or cause i hot wired it? lol

That's a good point, I think you're right.
Good call fast farmer!
As for the idle - it is probably idling high because of the fast idle, since the choke is on. That's still too high for even fast idle, so you'd need to adjust it.
Truck runs good now. ran some seafoam thru it and now it idles much smoother at a perfect 800rpms with no hesitation. Not to mention from the throttle response it pulls like a raped ape.
And im just curious, what kinda top end are you guys getting with a 302? I pinned it earlier at 4,200rpms and was still pullin. The speedo stops at 100mph and as long as i know i can outrun my buddies VW gti im happy (that thing tops out at 80 lol)
