So last Friday I walked out the door at work and began walking towards my fathers '04 F150 I had to drive it because he was in my truck. When I got to it I got in started it up let the air conditioning get cold, then put it in reverse to back out of my parking place and it would not move. The engine would rev, but the truck would not move forwards or backwards. I called a tow truck to come and take the truck to the local stealership. The guy from the towing company couldn't even get the truck to roll he had to drag it onto the rollback. He took it down to the dealership and dropped it off. I went in the next day, and they had determined that the transmission was shot. The truck had 44000 miles on it and they say it is not under warranty. So basically my dad is looking for a new truck. Moral of the story: Ford couldn't have a worse warranty.
Damn, that sux man!! My buddy has an 02 (I think) F150 and his tranny had been giving him fits the whole time. He made them replace it right before he hit 36k, and got lucky. Hell, his jacked up and wouldn't move on train track one time. And a train was coming. He got it moving in time, but that was enough to scare the fire out of anyone!
yeah i probably should have posted it in the F150 thread but I never post there and since I am familiar with this thread I figured I would post it here. The only thing that really gets me is that at 44000 miles, the truck should not be having major problems like transmissions. I know that our trucks (the Super Duties) have a 100,000 mile warranty. I just wish that Ford would just incorporate the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty like the dodges. LOL. Ok I'm done now I have blown enough steam and made myself feel a little better.
My bros 02 f-150 trans, has about 110K on it now, trans is still fine. Added a shift kit to it 10K miles ago, along with its FIRST trans flush at the same time. Can't believe it but its still going along fine, no problems. I hope he never gets rid of it, the truck has not had too many problems in its life, and I want to see how long this transmission lasts.
That sucks to hear. Ford seems to have a little bit of problems building a really good long lasting transmission. They get lucky sometimes, but damn 44k aint much.
...And the 100K warranty is on the PSD engine only, not the powertrain. People get this confused a lot.
IICR the dealer i used to go to for parts had a poster that said "100,000 powertrain warranty". do you have to buy the extra coverage on the rest of the stuff or what?

Could be but from IH the PSD engine is the only thing that is covered by a 100K warranty - fan to flywheel, turbo to pan. I must say, I can be wrong though so don't quote me. When I bought my wife's Exploder, we got the factory 3/36K plus added an ESP that bumped up to a 5/100K but we had to pony up the $$ for the ESP.
