I have noticed that my truck makes a differnt noise from the glow plug sytem now that its getting colder out. During the warmer weather it made a buzz/rattling noise its a fast buzz. Now that its colder out 35-40, it makes a clicking noise instead of the buzz. I get no smoke from the exhaust or anything abnormal like that, also the truck starts and runs fine. Is this just the inductive heating flash making this "new" noise. last time it was in the dealership was back in February and I didnt pay too much attention to it back then.
Now that its cool in the am and warmer in the pm when I go home I notice the 2 different sounds. Is it time to bring it in for service or am I still good to go.
Sarge - the inductive heat flash does not make any noise. You have the previous "buzz" flash. I do not know if it should sound different in cold weather than in hot. Maybe others can help?
I am still using the buzz flash and it should not sound any different in different weather. It should just buzz. It will do it longer in colder weather though.
In the cold it doesnt buzz, it makes a clicking noise, no CEL, it stars right up, runs fine. Maybe I should bring it in. Maybe my glow plugs are going bad. I dont know. Its time for a transmission flush anyway.
the inductive heating flash will cause a buzz or clicking type noise, kinda like the old buzz flash, but only in cold starts. the injectors "cycle" when you switch the key to the on posistion and the glow plug light in the cluster is on and they will keep cycling untill the glow plug light goes out and it is time to start your truck.
now if the clicking isnt coming from this then i need to hear the noise. right off hand i cant think of any reason for a clicking sound unless the injectors are the clicking sound you hear.
I beleive that it is the injectors, Its just that it doesnt buzz constantly now that the weather is colder. It makes more of a clicking noise until the GP light goes out. I am sure that is all it is. Like I said the truck will start right up and run fine when this happens. If I drive it and the truck is warm it will buzz like it normally does. If it sits for a few hours and the temps are low, I'd say around 50 or below it will click instead of buzz.

He is saying that it shouldn't buzz at all though. So you still have some issues going on. They might have just done the flash wrong. I doubt you have any serious issues. I would take it in asap though to get it sorted out.

.
Interesting. I have never heard buzzing or clicking since having the flash.
What would dictate a "cold start"? Would it depend on ambient temperature?
the inductive heating flash will cause a buzz or clicking type noise
the sound can vary depending on a variety of possibilities. the injectors will make a noise when the glow plug light is on in the cluster, and will stop when the light goes out. the inductive heating flash does the same thing to the injectors as the buzz flash did, just one does it before where the other did it after, and of course you have a injector "preheat" now. in colder temps the buzzing, clicking, whatever, will be more noticeable because the oil is thicker, the body is colder, so noises transmit more.
sarge im not saying you dont have a issue, by all means get it looked at. there is only so much i can do without having the truck right under my nose.
Can you fly up here, Install some head studs, check the noise, etc.
Just kidding, I do wish I lived closer to you tho, you have helped me out quite a bit. I am not sure that I have an issue either, I just noticed a change as I am pretty close with my truck. I just dont want anything to happen to it, but it will be going in for service soon so I will let them check it out.
