[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Mar-02 AT 10:54 PM (EST)]For some reason a lot of the people I know like imports. You know the kind, with subwoofers and loud mufflers. They're always bragging about how fast they are and that they could beat any body in a race and i would like to teach 'em a good leason. I would give almost anything to have a street truck with a hopped up 429 but I also hunt and fish so I would have a tendancy to get that nice street truck dirty. I was wondering if a guy could have the best of both worlds, speed and offroad capability. Do any of you guys have beefed up 4x4 that can get to 60 in less than 6 seconds? And if you do what mods have you done to your engine and truck to make it possible?
Thanks in advance.

Most kids around here with import trucks are all 2 wheel drive. Big difference between them and us. If you got the money anything is possible, my friends 1984 Chebby 4 door dually 4x4 went 8.02 in the 1/8 mile. not to bad considering the wheight of that land barge.
Of course he was running a Nascar big block from a asphalt modified at the time.
My point is MONEY makes horse power, spend lots of it and you'll get it.
Plus who cares how fast "he" is when your parked on top of him!!
I dont know about 6 seconds but I can get there pretty damn fast... and I can leave some viscious TSL black marks... I just scare the imports to death... I wouldnt want to get into any 100 mph + romp with a ricer.. but ill be damned if they can do anything with the 460 from 0 to 75
I've never timed my truck, but I think it could come close. I'd have to agree that those rice burners don't stand a chance against a built 460 under 75mph. I know when I put the pedal down in first gear it only takes a second or two (literally) to hit 6000, and at 4100 in second my truck is going 60mph and your still back in your seat. Someday I'd like to make my 460 into a high horse 514 and teach those imports a lesson.
Now I'm going to have to time my truck. Although I've spanked some imports in my time, the bill for new 35's BFGs is a bit steep so I try to keep the tire smoking down unless they are really cocky.
If you are into Diesel pickups there are a lot of guys doing 15 , 14 & 13 seconds with PowerStrokes & Cummings with 35 inch tires and bigger.

1979 F350,4x4,NP435,5:13 gears,Detroit locker in rear with hardened shafts,ABR in the front,360 with 428 crank & rods,390 HP heads,Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch,MSD Ignition,39.5x18 Boggers,bucket seats out of a Lightning,& a Southern Body that is perfect.
I built a 1974 F-250 4x4 with a 428 SCJ. It ran the 6 barrel carb (ie 3-2's). Never timed it. I ran 12.00 x 16.5 tires on 10" rims.
Only thing I couldn't pass was the gas station. I always ran the Pantera if someone wanted to play real hard. Truck is gone but the Pantera is still in the garage along with the 6 barrel carb set-up.
I have a 94 f-250 with a 351. I run a 17 flat with a 1.1 light(I know I suck)The truck has 4.10 gears a c-6 with a gear vendors overdirve and 37x12.50x16.5 Hummer tires. This truck has no a/c dual 40series flows and a k&n and thats it.
Back in 1989, my 1969 F250 4x4 ran 16.2 in the 1/4. Power came from a stock 1974 440 smog engine, ran through a stock torqueflite, and then out to the 4.10 Dana60. Back in highschool, I would sometimes give rides in the back while we would "cruise the strip". Will never forget the time when a half dozen or so people were riding in the back cheering and laughing as I drag raced (and beat) some brand-X Nova... Seems few people understood what steeper gears can do for a launch - that truck would spank the then-new Monte Carlo SS's between stoplights.
My other pastime with that truck was:

My friend that has an import car...'84 Z puts out 400HP...he has 19 pounds of boost off his turbo....no truck besides a race truck could beat that 0-60...anywho...he has a G-tech pro timer....I put it on my truck and it gave me a 9.34 0-60...and a 17.14 1/4....not lighting fast but when consider i got a lot of metal to move...and only a cat back exhaust and a K&N filter...it's not to shabby for a 25 foot long 4X4
I have a Vortech supercharged EFI460,with a bunch of other go-fast upgrades in my '94 F-250HD 4x4 regular cab pickup. On Desktop Dynos the combination was said to have 420bhp@4,500rpm,and 577 lb.-ft. of torque@3,000rpm.It also has a E4OD,and factory 4.10:1 gears.I'd time it except for two things:1). it never could hook-up-SEVERE axle hop!,and 2). the stock E4OD is no more....Anyway,I was thinking of putting this same combination in my '90 Bronco. It has a shorter wheelbase:104.7" vs. 133" for the pickup, and weighs in at about 850-1,000 lbs. less than the pickup does. That was only 6 psi of boost, but I'm wondering what 9,or 10 psi will do for the 460's numbers?!One thing is for certain, the E4OD will need buku upgrades to handle that kind of power, but I figure the Bronco will hook-up off the line really well.I did one build on Desktop Dynos of a EFI460,with better breathing heads,a larger throttle body, and the 6 psi of boost I'm currently running:476bhp@5,000rpm&over 600 lb.-ft. of torque.I'd like to see what kind of times that combo in a 104.7" wb Bronco would do!
I have a 73 ford 4x4 with a Super performance 390ci built from cam to carb, hedman headers, 3inch custom exhaust system, c-6 auto with dana HD44's front and rear. It also has 33inch Interco Super Swamper TSL's. This truck does a 4 wheel sqeal pretty dang easy. Did anyone say califonia J's???? I can do them too!!! I can do a 1/4 mile in about 10 to 9 sec. Not the fastest in the world but not bad. Like mentioned in the previous messages, Money+Time=Horspower&Speed. I think the ricer's should stay in thier neck of the woods and then I won't think of runnin' them over!

Well the math is simple, Horse Power VS weight. That's the reason rice burners say they run fast they have no weight. Now if your horse power to weight ratio is higher then theirs and you can get the traction. well then the rice patty goes down. Since us American boys build trucks with big American engines then horse power is easy. I have a 95 F150 fuel injected 302, small huh! when you add K&N, Headman headers, copper gaskets, 3" flowmaster exhaust, and a custom performance chip were talking dyno performance over 300hp, and that is without breaking into the engine.
300hp don't sound like much but when the gears are in the rear that sucker flys from 0 to 60. I guess I need to time it you have me curious now. Rice burners are only wish I could be's there hoping the next rain will cause their truck to grow a little!!
Next time they talk fast ask them how deep the can run in the water! Watch them light weight suckers float away down stream. Even if they are sealed right their weight wont keep them on the bottom!
It's better to get through slow than not make it at all!!!
