I have a 1993 F150 with 6in suspention, 3in body,302 engine, headers, K@N Filter, power pulleys, eletric fans, 5 speed, 38x1250x15 tires, lockers, 4.56 gears. The question is how do I find out what transfer case is best for my truck or does it make a difference? And how much money is involved for a dubled?
NP203 or NP205 are the best in my opinion. I have a NP208 now in my 84 Bronco and works well but it is chain driven and the case is aluminum. The 203 and 205 are gear driven and you can double them with some mods.
My vote is with the NP 205-208 gear driven, instead of the chain driven BW 1365. The BW 1365 has the cool 3:1 gear ratio, the NP 205 is only 2:1. there is an external component that bolts on to the trans case that will do just about anything you what I think they go up to a 7:1 or something like that plus the 2:1 from the NP 205 you'd have 14:1.
If you're wanting lower gears then the NP205 is not the way to go. I'm thinking the low range ratio is only 1.96. The BW1356 has a ratio of 2.69. If you have the Mazda 5 speed you might want to consider swapping it for a ZF, that way you get that granny first gear. If you still want to go lower and stronger you could get an Atlas transfer case from Advance Adapters. I read somewhere that they have a kit to bolt one up to a ZF now, but we're talking big bucks. I'd probably stick with the 1356.
