does any one know of a good builder of high angle front axle driveshafts? My upper cv joint is binding (because of lift)and I want to either replace it with a better shaft or possible machine it. Is it possible to machine off a little on the end of the yokes so they dont hit, or is this not a good idea.
My buddy trimmed a little off his yokes when he put on a 6 inch lift last year. He wheels his truck pretty hard and has not had any trouble with it yet. A little scary to do, but he was trying to do it cheap and it's hard to beat a grinder when price is your motivation.
Arizona driveline makes a high angle drive line that can handle up to 80 degrees and still spin freely I will find there web address and post it for you in this post
thanks for the help guys. I will check out both sites as soon as possible to get an idea on the prices. 80 degrees sounds awesome! if they are a little on the pricey side, I'm sure they are, its comforting to know someone else has done the cheap fix.
I got the high angle end from Arizona for around 400 I think. I'm going to have the shaft made locally, so I just bought the 80 degree end. As for your stock driveshaft, you will need to round off all of the squared edges near the u-joint caps. I did mine with a die grinder and a carbide cutting tip. Make sure you get all of them though, or you may get a hard to locate thump in 4 wheel drive.
