I vote for Labs too. We got a choclate Lab 2 years ago for free and he is the best dog I could ever imagine. I was raised with Boston terriers. They aren't the smartest dogs but they are awesome with kids. Give it a ball to chew on they are crazy about them, but they don't retrieve. Sorry to hear about your brake line and seat. Hope it gets better.
1000th post, yes!!! I have a 5 month old chocolate lab that i am training and so far so good except last week i put him in the bed and went for a ride. He got up on the side rails, slipped, front paws went over the side, paint job very scratched up! Still an awesome dog though.
I guess that my dog is spoiled, she gets the cab treatment, summer and winter.
Riding in the box when it's in the single digits for temp in the winter time on the way to an ice fishing destination isn't right for man or man's best friend. ( Plus I don't expect her to find a place to ride on top of the fishing gear....ice house, heater, etc)
She'll mostly sleep the whole trip where ever we go. Sometimes I almost forget that she's with. Till me or the wife get's a nudge from a nose or a lick on the elbow from her to let us know that she's there .
My lab rides in the cab most of the time too. He only goes in the back if he has been in the water and we aren't going far. He also sleeps most of the time, but we do get the wet nose and tongue treatment too. Curiously he seems to prefer to sleep on the floor (which is fine by me).
wow, never thought my rant about the stupid little dog would go 2 pages, just an update, brakes are fixed!!! Tust me the dog gets lots of attention, my wife runs a inhome daycare so there are kids here all of the time to play with it! I really think it has a death wish or something......1. chewed hole in bag of fertilizer, 2. tipped over kerosine can(not very much in it) and chewed filler nozel,3. chewed brake line!!! All not very good for dog I'm sure but it seems to be none the worse for wear!!! so now I have banned it from my castle(garage) and I went out and bought it more toys to chew on---seems to eat at least one every week!!!
really it's a good dog but I grew up with labs and had my last 2 for 14 and 13 years respectivly so I'm having a hard time getting used to a 15lb dog that thinks it weighs 100lbs!!!
So I guess I'm stuck with it for a while(how long do they live anyway!!???) but then we are going back to labs---some people around here raise silver(yes silver) labs, never heard of them before but man are they pretty---think that will be our next dog.
Those dogs live about 10 years and they do mellow out a bit as they get older. I have never heard of a silver lab. Could you put a picture of one here? Yes those terriers do think they are 100lbs. We had 2 when I grew up and I saw them take down a Dobberman. They had it down by the throat until we called them off. That dobby never bothered them again. Good luck with the dog.
