personally i'd stay away from 20" wheels on a 4x4, though they look good, the impracticality overrules. in the end its your choice, but i'll side with your wifey on this one
Go for it! You only live once, the wife will get over i,t and the money wiil come back in sooner or later. Plus, you can probally get rid the set thats on your truck now, if you are so inclined.

im running the terrag grappler at's in 325x60x18, and I HATE THEM !!!!!! they just dont look agressive enough, and their traction is crap.... not just in ice and snow, but in plain water...... ive cought mine trying to hydroplane a few times. just my quick .02
oversized wheels aparantly cut down on your capacity considerably, i think there's a 2-300lb difference from the standard 17" to the 18" wheels on the F150's. also, i'd just cringe at the thought of grinding a rock or stump against some shwanky 20's... while they'd look awesome, for practicality, I'D leave them where they are and put some beefy rubber on the rims that are stock.
96sherm mentions the impracticality of 20's like people actually do serious offroading with their trucks. 95% of the owners don't. Get the 20's for sure!

just stating things the way i see them. all it would take is a nasty pothole, found anywhere on a canadian highway-you may have them in the states as well - , to wreck a nice rim... its a heavy truck, might even get used as a truck. personally, though they look durned sweet, i'd save my coin.
