I have a 2003 Ford F-150 4x4 Supercrew King Ranch and i was wondering if anyone knew how to change the dome lights inside the truck so i can put some more brighter whiter led bulbs in there.
The lens just clips in. You can use LEDs and resistors, but you will need the LED's specs or find the right style of pre-made lamps.
The down fall is LEDs are directional, they produce a spot rather than a flood of light like incandescent bulbs. Even with the diffuser, I think the light out put would be difficult to match with just a couple of white(expensive) LEDs.
I changed my bulbs to LED bulbs. The whiter light is nice, but trying to point the bulbs and get the amount of light as ReAX mentions is tough. It's a nice novelty thing, but if you are looking for a lot of light, I would stick with the regular bulbs. I'm looking at having to create somethign different and tie into the wiring with the ones I have to get better lighting with the LED's.
Well i got the bulbs out the houseing and i looked in there and theres alittle mirror in there thats angled. Does yalls have that? Maybe the mirror will help spread the light out more?
I tried this LED thing too. I got some 10 mm "ultrabright" LEDs and put them into the dome lights. Forget it! The result is spooky white light with very little brightness. Better clean out any dust from the metal reflector behind the bulb, or even polish it as it seems to be aluminium. Also clean the transparent cover. It's amazing how a little bit of dust can block so much light.
I bought my LED dome light kit from RECON and love them. As long as you angle the two LED bulbs on the outside the right direction, they give off plenty of light. And it looks great too.
