hey guys, i just bought a 79 150 that has a balanced and blueprinted 390 with a edelbrock 4 barrell, crane cam, headers, and cherry bomb glasspacks. I know that stock it makes about 280 but am wondering if with the extras how much more it makes. Also torque?
I found out that It has Hooker Headers 1 3/4" tubes, 2.5" collector, 24" length. The carb is a edelbrock 600 cfm. I couldn't find out exactly what cam it has and i dont know about the compression but i dont think that it is very much above stock. Also it has a 4 speed standard transmission. It has dual 2.5" exhaust with cherry bomb glass packs and no catalytic converters.

Well I'am curiuos as too how you came up with it makes about 280 hp stock?
Do you know what year block it is ? what the heads are and valve size? Compression ratio? I'am not getting on you so dont get me wrong ! there's just to many variables to consider to claim it makes about 280hp stock? what is stock?
I shouldn't of said "I know it makes 280 stock(by stock i mean what it came with originally)". i should have said that the guy who i bought it from said that that was what it made before he had the cam put in and before he got it balanced. i don't know what year the block is or heads or valve size or commpression so i need to do a lot more research on it then i will have better info to support what it is. thanks for the help though?
Yeah Bud, when you get a little more info and block and head #'s post them...and we'll work from there...If all the internals are stock with just a cam change...
The numbers that i found on the block were D3TE, it was on the right side of the block, is this the right one to tell me anything? where do i look for the head numbers. Thanks for the help.
What year is the engine? Here was the stats for my 64 390 out of my old Tbird. 300HP @4800RPM 427 Torque@2800RPM 3.00 Gears autolite 4bbl carb, 10.1:1 compression,2 1/8 exhaust with a cruise-o-matic trans. Jason
okay i got the rest of the numbers off my motor, besides the D3TE on the pass side of the block there is 105 under the oil filter on drivers side. On the intake there is a big S followed by C7AE which has 8425E below it. Next close to the carb it has a 3 with either 7C31 or 7O31 under the 3. hopefully these will tell me what year my motor is and what heads are on it and everything else so i can better know horsepower. If anyone can tell me what these numbers mean i would apreciate it very greatly since i am brand new to FE's. THANKS!
I am pretty sure that the D3te means a 73 block. I don't know about the 105. THe intake is a 67 and the S is good. I don't know about the carb numbers either I'm sure if you searched that you could find where the numbers are at for the heads the only place I can think of is under the valve covers but I could be wrong they might not be there.
thanks, so by the intake is a 67 you mean from 1967 right? and i am pretty sure that the head numbers are under the valve covers but i dont want to take them off untill i need new gaskets because the ones that are on are brand new. thanks for the help!
D3TE is a '73 Truck Engine; the 105/'reverse 105' is the supposed 'thick wall' designation for use in trucks and industrial applications. My '67 410 ended up being a D3TE block w/ the '67 428 crank, rods, and ID tag (on the intake); I'm fairly 'newbie' too!
The '105' is a heavy duty block, much goodness not that you'll really need it. If you have some spare change I'd sell the 'S' cast iron intake manifold and put on an Edelbrock performer RPM intake. It will make a world of difference in the torque output from off-idle to top end. Don't bother with the non-rpm edel intake, its not much better than the one you have now. I have run all of these intakes, the RPM is the best by far for get up and go, but is a little finicky on hot starts. I had to add a one inch phenolic carb spacer to help keep the carb cooler. Also suggest using MR Gasket intake gaskets #202A. They are softer that what felpro offers, and thus seal better in by opinion. JMO.
