I have a 97 F350 that I just recently started having front end issues with. My front tires are wearing on the outsides, at around 65-70 mph, the front end has a shimmy to it (only at and above those speeds), and now periodically the steering gets really stiff while trying to turn. I have checked the ball joints and they appear to be fine. Have not yet checked the stabilizer, but will this week. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have had the truck for about 5 years and have never had the alignment done. Have a hard time finding someone that has a rack big enough. Will get that done and post back. Thanks
Camber and caster aren't adjustable, only the toe-in is. If the front springs have sagged at all (common with a heavy diesel motor) then it will throw the toe-in off. I bet you'll be surprised at how much better it steers with a proper alignment. I always go to firestone because they have the lifetime alignment. Pay once and get it done as often as you want.
He has a f350 so it has a d60 front axle. You can take a tape measure and do a quick toe-in adjustment. He also has a crew cab long bed, so he needs to find a shop that has an extended alignment rack. There are offset bushings avaliable to change caster/camber which go on the upper balljoint.
