When I make turns in 95 F350, the limited slip rear feels like it's binding up a bit. I haven't ever thought to check fluid levels so in it so it's probably low. If I go ahead and drain it, does anyone have a recommended fluid additive to put in with the oil? (note- I'm new to this site so sorry if this topic has been beaten to death before). Thanks - slowjack
First make sure you are not in 4wd.. it's silly but there are those who wouldn't know.
The stock LS diff in these trucks is pretty weak, most would not know they even had one until they looked inside, so if yours is producing tire chirping in 2wd either something is broken or its not an OEM diff. I suggest you remove the cover and inspect, jack up the rear axle and rotate both sides to look for anything binding or otherwise not working right.
I replaced the fluid with what was recommended and the bind is gone! Amazing stroke of good fortune for me as I was expecting that pieces of the clutch disks would come dropping out when the plate was pulled off.
One glitch though: I stopped to get the truck washed in one of those touchless sprayer washers before doing the job. When I went to restart while in the wash bay the darn batteries (2 for the 7.3L) were dead. Some kind soul in a Dodge 1500 towed me out and allowed me to pull their battery to get started - jumping didn't work. So I also had to go buy 2 new batteries. The old batteries were from 2000 so I guess I can't complain but it's amazing how they just go without warning.
Thanks for all the advice guys - Jack
