Hello everybody, long time reader here in need of some help. Ihave a 2004 F250 psd that runs fine for a while then it just cuts off. You can drive it for hours ans it runs fine or sometimes it will run for days before it knocks off. You'll be driving down the road and its like theres no throttle. You press it and nothing it just idles. Then after a couple of seconds the engine dies and it won't start back up. You can gin and gin on it and it will try to start but nothing. Let it set for a while and it will crank and run fine for a while. I know a little about mechanics I was a Cat diesel mechanic for 15 years and its got me clueless. We hooked a OTC genesis scanner to it and there where 2 codes for #1 and #6 balance something or another but that was it. hooked a fuel pressure gauge to it and ran it until it quit. It had 55 psi and the scanner claims there where no codes.
So we carried it to the local ford dealer and they called me today and sair it needed 2 injectors a egr valve and a egr throttle plate at a cost of $2500.00. The problem is I don't mind paying it but they said they weren't sure if that would fix the shutting off and not running problem.
If you guys have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks

High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP)... If it runs when cold, but flakes out when hot, but then runs again when it cools... Search for HPOP to get more info. IMHO
There's a TSB on this but I've got that info at home and I'm (supposed to be) working! Make sure they check the harness very carefully. Have them check/clean/replace the EGR valve as well.
What about crank sensor????
friend of mine had a 7.3 that did the same thing and it was the crank sensor...... i know two diff. engines 7.3 and 6.0 but what do you think.
ICP sensor or wiring harness that hooks to the ICP is where I would check. Has someone updated your ICP connector? I had the exact problem you are describing. The updated ICP connector had been installed but I put in a new one anyways and put some hose around the wiring to protect it where it goes up the valve cover(I have a late 04). It fixed the problem right up no more problems to date.

Your dealer doesn't know what's wrong with it either if they are going to throw parts at it at your hefty expense, take your $2.5K for things that won't cure why you originally brought it in. Believe me, those items mentioned aren't related to your descriptive symptoms. Yes, you might need a couple injectors but those things will show up when diagnosing.
I think what the guys mentioned here is going in the correct direction, I'd find another dealer that will address the reason why it's there in the first place.
Since you are evidently paying the bill, find a Ford heavy shop or one that specializes in powersroke diesels.
If you ask the guys here or use your local resources, regarding your area, you will find the right shop.
