Can go to superlift.com or skyjacker.com and check out their kits, and buying one from ntwonline.com. Your other option is a body lift, but that will make gaps between the bumpers and the body (they make small kits to cover them, but doesn't look great). Also, the body lift will make it easier to see the frame, which isn't always cute (like on a chevy).

Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .

Check out my Gallery for a look-see.

Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Heavyduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Weighs around 7,000lbs w. 65mph top speed, who wants to race me!

Go with the body lift!

Its only $100 and very easy to install.
The cable linkage makes things easier!

You can move the front & rear bumpers up to get rid
of the gap. Look at my gallery, I have a 3" body lift
with no gaps!

Good luck!

Yeah but what about the frame, you can see it easier. In many opinions, not just mine, they are the cheaper way to go, but not as good as a suspension lift.

Make sure the lift comes with a bed lift as well. Buy your torx bit (if your bed uses them that year) from Sears (or better Snap-On) so if/when it breaks you can get a replacement for free/easy.

The "impact" ones from Autozone etc. are very weak and will probably shear off inside the torx bolt if they are rusted, which can be a major hassle. From personal experience.

Disconnect your battery (mostly for the airbag). I think on the 91 Ranger they have a battery backup but it only lasts a minute or so.

You keep bringing up the "frame" it is only a problem on ugly chevy's NOT on FORDs. You can barely see the frame on a FORD with a 3" body lift. Especialy if there is no suspension lift, because the truck is still too low to the ground to notice it.

I have major lift and I dont notice the frame, it looks fine to me. Take a look at my gallery. My truck with a body lift has the same amount of frame rail showing as a newer stock chevy!

You can even get or make gap gaurds for inside the fenders to hide the gaps between the frame and body.

The FRAME is not a problem in my opinion.

But I do see why it would be a ugly problem on a chevy.

jberlecrider,
Did your body lift come with a bracket to raise your rear bumper? If so, who makes it. I'm looking for a body lift but can't seem to find one with the rear bumper bracket.

By the way, nice truck!

There are no bumber brackets front or rear for our era of Fords.

For the rear you just take the bumper off, measure 2.5" up from the stock holes and drill new ones. Bolt the bumper in the new holes. All done.

For the front its a bit more difficult because the bottom of the bumper curles under the frame rail. You have two choices here:

1. Cut a notch in the bottom tip of the frame rail 2.5" back and 2.5" up. The bumper can then be mounted higher on the excisting mounts.

-or-

2. Cut a notch in the bottom of the bumper in-line with the frame rails so it can be raised without the frame rails getting in the way.

Either way its not very hard to do, you'll probably spend a day doing it all. We used a sawzall and notched out the frame rail for the front on my truck. I think it looks better, because if you just notch the bumper itself you will see the bottom of the frame rail sticking out of the bottom of the bumper.

Anyhow, I'd be more than happy to help you out. Just email me or something.

I thought body lifts were a PITA to install...suspension kits are cake. Am I wrong?

Depends on the truck...

A body lift on this '91 Ford is EASIER than a suspension lift on this truck.

But if you are comparing this install on this truck to a suspension lift on an older solid axle model then yes the suspension lift is easier on the older model than the body lift on this newer model.

The newer the 1/2ton truck, the more difficult the suspension lift is, but the body lift is still easy.

Nothing beats the old trucks though, everything is easier!

I have done body lifts on everything from a 72 Chevy to a 94 Ranger and of coarse my truck

Most of the time the body lift is A LOT easier.

I've heard they were a PITA because of the bolts being stuck, and the shifter linkage and crap. I bet it's easier with power tools, but i still like suspension lifts better. I wouldn't put a body lift on there unless i had an 8" lift and needed more.
