Last night, I went to start my 97 f150 and nothing happened. I figured for the time being i should get the truck out of the way so the wife could get out of the driveway, so we pushed it. Well, after we got it out of the way, I tried to start it again, it did, with hesitation, then the check engine light came on and it smoked a lot more than usual. I went out to start it again today, it starts fine, but the light still is on and the smoke still is more than usual. It also has a strange odor. Any ideas as to what could be causing that?

The engine is running rich.. too much fuel. Why I don't know because my 1984 Ford is the newest Ford I've ever had. The day I get a newer Ford is the day I'll buy a code reader and a code book for it, so if something goes wrong like what you are experiencing, I'll have a chance to maybe fix it myself instead of taking it to the shop. It might be something simple like a bad O2 sensor or something, but without a code reader I wouldn't have a clue.

Hey man, thanks a lot. That is kinda what I've been thinking too because I've looked around other message boards about f150's and that seems to be what others have been saying also. I think i know what it is now, thanks!!
