Now, now.. let's not jump to conclusions here... even the most well designed and best quality parts do have occasional defects.
It's quite unfortunate this has happened to RedRanger, but don't be badmouthing Ford and this design over this... at least until (if) we start hearing about more failures...
Wife and I bought a '09 3.0l Limited Escape. My wife just loves this vehicle. Lots of power, quiet, smooth, the SYNC system is awesome. I just hope it's decent on fuel.
I've been driving my new '09 FEL I4 for just over a week now. Hard to tell how it will hold up, but I have put just under 300 miles on it and I got 31 MPG on the country roads here and have been getting just over 26 MPG commuting to work. The ride is great, the truck is very quiet, the handling is wonderful and the transmission is very smooth. The concerns about the rear drum breaks is nothing to worry about. My wife's car has 4 wheel disks and this new Escape stops almost as quickly as her's. So far I am extremely pleased with my purchase and look forward to many many miles together.
