I guess every one has a story. I grew up through the change meaning flatheads to the
Y block. I was use to just hearing the fan belts on the flathead, I was use to just
snapping the starter button and it was running instantly, I was use to looking at the
oil gauge to see if it was infact running thats a correct running flathead total silence.
Now it goes away for the so called new 239. I have till now resisted change. After 4 or
five years I saw it go to 272 292 312s etc. I saw crude plumbing, I saw one guy using
#90 gear oil for oil, I saw a farmer running around with no valve covers with a jug of
oil hanging off the fender. I totally hated the smY. You get older you tend to mellow.
About 4Years ago I bought a 64 F350 (local farmer) Ok one of them a 292 . Truck
very good (I put a 3Yd sander on it) First thing I pulled the valve covers I really thought
I needed a sledge hammer they just came off. Couldnt beleive this, really need some
Buds >Hospitol clean maybe because this is the first year of the PVC valve. I exercise
it like once a week. Yesterday took it for a packey run and drove it like a hated it. I
had to back it off way way over my limits. My cousin totally hated Ford products and
I mean that was the F word. At present he has a 1981 LTD (square tail light) his now
pamperd baby. What up with this. Is this old age or a baby boomer thing.
You all know I got a fleet of fat fender big jobs most have 391FTs I love em and I
have three with 332 Y blocks. They are not high revers like 391s but low end torque
is awesome. One of my biggest enemys beside spiders is a lawnmower. Now I dont
mind it at all. So i guess Im trying to say keep that age thing in mind. My neighbor
drives Steadybakers it works for him.
