I've just got a 93 4x4 Explorer with trans problem. I was told it was a Torque Converter problem. I put a transmission system out of a 94 4x4 Explorer in it, that I saw driven before I got it. I used my Transfer Case. I still have the same problem, Wheels won't turn or drive train doesn't work. I think it has to do with the Transfer case motor????? I can't find symtoms for Transfer case motor. Has anyone had this problem?
I had a friend who was installing a tranny, from one known good vehicle to another, (from one beat up body to a better shape body) When he got it mated up, the tranny's oil pump had worked its way loose, or slipped.. and didn't line up anymore therefore it had no drive... now I don't claim to be any kind of tranny guy... but I remember how ticked off he was once he realized what had happened..
I also don't know if there is a fix for that situation, but I know he had another tranny handy and put it in, because he could see that the other one was still lined up. Sorry I don't have technical terms or info , but if you can make any sense out of my babble, perhaps you can have a better day tomorrow.
The transfer case motor is only important in the shifting the transfer case from 2H to 4H to 4L. The only way the shift motor is a problem is if it has somehow found a "neutral" position. If you think the t-case is the problem it should be easy enough to pull the shift motor and manually make sure the t-case is in 2H.
Thanks mrshoty and Garden Spyder for the come back. I will try to put it in 2 wheel by hand and see what happens, thats's easy, the pump might mean more labor. Thanks again!
