There was quite an unique Fairlane, think it was about a '56 or so, at the Fabulous '50's Ford car show in the 'Peg last Sunday.
It was from Saskatoon and the owner drove it to Winnipeg for the car show. It looked mostly stock , but the body was covered with separate metal designs that had been fixed all over the car.
It was really quite different looking and it was obvious a lot of care, effort and planning had gone into the reworking of this car.
I was drawn to check it out, due to the unusual appearance and the fact that I've been a fan of the '56 Ford Fairlane as my parents had one, back in '56 and '57. Our family Fairlane was a 4 door, two tone, blue and white, with an additional red stripe down the mid section, which my father had got a friend who had car painting experience to execute.
It also had the 312 cube, 4 bbl., 225 hp T-Bird engine, with Ford-o-matic.
Back to the original focus, any Saskatoonites, or is it Saskatoonies know any of the history of this remodeled Fairlane from Saskatoon ?
I heard that this Fairlane was brought over from Australia quite afew years ago. I saw it in Saskatoon 5-7 or ? years ago and I have never seen it since so I don`t know if Richie still owns it or not. Quite likely he does and it`s nice to know it still resides here in town.
For sure it`s a car that you will never forget with those metal inserts in the formed pockets of the actual car body sheet metal. As I remember it the car the car was mint and had hardly any miles on it, maybe somewhere around 20,000 (KM maybe) when I last saw it. I kind of remember it as being a 55, I could be wrong there though.
It would be awesome to see pictures of it since it`s so unique and very hard to describe.
Thanks for bringing this up Les.
They are in fact very similar, mainly the tail lights, front signal lights, dash some what and grill as I remember Les.
I had 2-55`s, a 4dr sedan plus a Crown Victoria and 3-56`s back when..
