The T/C light on my 2003 F250 7.3 quit working. After searching the forum, I found that the common problem is the wires coming out of the shifter breaking. My nearest dealer didn't have a shifter, but could order one for $58.00. Feeling that I could have nothing to lose, I started to see if I could repair the broken wires. I found that one wire was broken where the wires exit the shifter. I cut the other two and pulled the end off the shifter , which brought the wire out with it. I cut the tie wire that is holding the wires at the other end, so that I could get to the release for the plug.
I cut the switch end wires to three different lengths and soldered some small speaker wire to each wire. Then put heat shrink on each joint. The three different lengths allow the heat shrink to slide into the shifter without binding.
I took the plastic bushing out off the hole where the wires exit the shifter.
Threaded the wire through, making sure that I pulled all the slack out off the switch end. Soldered the remaining ends together, observing the color code, I used a long piece of heat shrink for the finish, and small pieces on the joints. I used some silicone at the wires exit point on the shifter and worked it in good to prevent chafing at that point.
It is working good so far. May quit at any time though and I will have to bite the bullit and buy a shifter. FYI Hammer
