I just got my new rig a 2003 SD Crew cab V-10 I ordered it with the cheapest tires I could. Planning on putting on new BFG AT'S...... Well I have heard some good things about the MTR however most that I talked to have not used them in snow. I live in MI so hard pack snow traction is a must. I have used AT in the past a lived with the lack of traction in the clay. But can the MTR be the answer?? I had planned on using 295 AT's or the 305 MTRs ( if I get them)
Any help would be great. Need to make a decision fast as I have to turn in the factory tires to get my credit towards the new ones.
I answered your question after you posted in the "Suspension, Tires and Wheels" forum.
The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R.
I am happy with them.
They ride great.
They are quiet on the road.
They look tough.
Go on your search engine and punch up Goodyear Wrangler MTR and read the reviews. They all seem very positive.
I know that the vast people here on these boards seem to migrate towards the B. F. Goodrich tires, I do not like them and want to something better.
Thank you for the response on both. I am still looking for some feedback on the hard pack snow traction. I will be stuck with these tires. I am uncertain on the mud tire for snow. Having never used a mud tire in snow only AT's. They work god in snow but lack in the clay we have here in MI. Money is tight and I will be unable to get another set for some time. As well I have two children that ride with me often I am concerned for saftey as well. I know that other's might say that they would give up some traction in snow for a better mud tire. I cannot, for safety reasons. :-)
If safety is the issue I would go with the best Michelin I could buy.
Sorry, I apparently miss read your post and thought you were looking for a tire to use in the clay. Have a great day.
I have some BFG mud terrains that work well in the snow. They are about the most agressive looking, all around tire you can get. I havn't personally tested them much in snow, once, but a truck magazine recently tested them on mud, rocks, and snow and it passed with flying colors. None of these tires are exceptional on hardpacked snow. I bought studded SNOW tires that provide a much larger difference than people think.
