New oil pump question

I'm in the middle of my 360 rebuild and in Steve Christ's book he says to get a new oil pump shaft and pickup (unless the pickup is a deep sump because they are rare)

Here is my buildup thread:

Do I need a new oil pump shaft and pickup?

If I get a new pickup is the depth pre set?

Do I have a deep sump pickup? Pic below:

A new pump would be a great idea! I recomend low pressure high volume, depending on how you are rebuilding. A new shaft is also a good idea as well. The pick up will unscrew off of the oil pump after you unbolt the pump. Measure now and replace to the measurements that you took. Also I have heard some guys use styrofoam and put it on the bottom of the pan to see where the screen is laying at to be sure.

A new shaft is cheap insurance. Make sure you get a hardened one. If there are any signs of rounding off on the ends of the shaft, replace it. The main reason for recommending a new pickup is because the screen gets full of crud over the years; they're cheap enough to just replace. For the pickup clearance, you can compare your new\old ones level side by side. Like willow_tree mentioned there are also techniques to determine the clearance inside the pan as well.

Thanks guys - I picked up a new shaft but am using the pickup again. It was clean and it sat in my parts cleaner for a couple of days. It's clean now! FWIW my local parts place wanted almost $30 for that pickup and it would have to been ordered.
