rear axle seal

I am assuming you mean the axle seals, at the brakes? If so, you will have to remove the diff cover & rotate the driveshaft till you can get to the bolt holding the spider gear pin. Remove the bolt & the pin. do not rotate the driveshaft after this, or the spider gears will fall out. Push in on the axle, & you shoud be able to see the clip. Remove the clip, then pull the axle out. Now remove the seal. On the new seal, put some axle grease in the cavity with the garter spring, so the spring does not move when you are installing the seal. Also, put a little grease on the seal lip where it will contact the axle. When you drive the new seal in, make sure you keep it straight. If it gets too crooked, & you continue to drive it in that way, it will likely leak.

You will need the following for the job:
Gear oil (check your manual for type)
Friction modifier (only if you have a trac lock)
RTV silicone sealer (for the diff cover)
2 axle seals (might as well do both when you are in that far...)
Basic hand tools (I'd reccomend getting a seal puller from your local parts place. They are cheap, & really simplify the job of pulling the seals.)
