My 98 Mazda B2500 rear drum brakes grab at initial take off after sitting for a while. It's actually more like a dragging feel. I adjusted them back but in short time they start to drag again. Anyone have the same problem or a good way to adjust them. Both wheel cylinders have been changed.
You might check the auto adjuster on the bottom of the brake assembly. Ive seen those get rusty or corroded, and they dont want to stay adjusted right. I believe you can pick up a brake hardware kit at autozone for just a few bucks
I am dealing with the same thing. I need to do the rear brakes, its been like this since I bought the truck. I did go in and lube everything up and it seemed to make it better for a while...but that may have just been wishful thinking. same as you, after sitting the rear brakes lock up and it takes a few minutes of use to get them to free up and work normal. Although I am not sure that under normal driving conditions that they are not locking up faster than they should too. I have also been looking at replacing the parking brake cables if I dont get a result from a rebuild. Ben is right, you can get the hardware kits from autozone and places like that for only like $8 for both sides.
I had the same problem, and it was corroded parking brake cables. Cut the cables and no more grab. New cables next weekend, but for now I'm parking Mazzy in gear...
let us know how it works out. I really dont know, but had gotten the idea that it was the cables themselves that get buggered up. Just as an additional bit of info, I bled my brakes and have taken to not using the parking brake...but it does not seem to have helped much.
I'm not sure if it is the same problem that I had. My parking brake would not let go completely when released on my 2003 Ranger. The dealer said that my brake cable was twisted inside the housing and could offer no explaination as to how that could happen. My brakes have been working fine since they relieved me of $386. Good Luck!
Thanks to alll. I unhooked the driver's side E brake cable in the drum.I should have picked up on it whrn the top of the shoes did not seem to fit well to the top anchor pin, Brakes work great now,
