Interchanging parts??

I was just thinking the other day if it would be possible to put headers for a 1995--1998 powerstroke on a 7.3L IDI? I plan on putting a turbo on in the future (Hopfully soon!!). I was also looking into putting on a Fluiddamper, and yes i was wondering again if it would work to swap one out of a powerstroke of 1995-1998?? the tech that works a Fluiddamper told my that it would work and the only problem i would have is the belt wouldn't line up any more. (The serpentine belt) Any insight would be good thanks!!

A Power Stroke turbo will not bolt onto an IDI engine.
The exhaust route is different, the intake path is completely different after the turbo.

Without internal mods an IDI will not stand Power Stroke boost levels.

So as far as the turbo, why make things harder than they have to be.
After thinking for a second, I guess that also applies to the Fluid Damper.

I had mine balanced when it was at the machine shop.
Smooth as silk at all RPM with a stock harmonic balancer, which bolted right on with no modifications at all.
The ATS IDI turbo was also a bolt on application, I just had to do a couple upgrades to the gaskets to stand the boost I am running.

It's a different kind of harmonic balancer with a "viscous" fluid in it.
It's supposed to work better esp. @ different RPMs.
I think there is a "counter-balance" inside of the outer housing with the fluid in between.
I had one on a Camaro but I don't know if it was more because of the engine balance, correct camshaft selection or the Fluidampner but it was SMOOOOTH! Probably a combination of both. I had the RPMs so high one time the shaft on the water pump sheared off and it was smooth as silk right up until then, in fact it was smooth after too and it felt like I gained 40 HP. That was because the fan and its clutch were wadded up in a ball in my radiator.
I will never rebuild another engine without having it balanced, even an in-line.
Besides being smoother they last longer.

I was asking about the manifolds or headers. i found a company that sells powerstroke headers and was wondering if they would bolt on and not the turbo. Thanks anyways. And about the Fluiddamper.....exactly what Dodge/Cummins said!

Does the ballancer have to be ballanced as an assembly with the crank shaft or can the ballancer be ballanced by itself?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I'd say neither. I know the crank shaft is balanced by itself. The harmonic balancer is only used to offset the frequency vibrations created by the engine. Some vehicles, like my 300 I6 don't have any type of counter balance to it, as the design is inherently balanced.

Fluid dampeners offer a variable displacement counterbalance. Much like filling truck tires with magnesium, instead of balancing them. However, they only work on engines that they're designed for. The powerstroke one might bolt up, but the amount of fluid used will be different than that of an IDI. different weight, mass of internals. If your trying to smooth out a rough running engine, than theres other issues there.

My idi bucked and grumbled when I first got it. Doing all the things posted time and time again here (like return lines, injectors, timing, etc.) has my engine running smooth. So smooth with the truck at idle and a door open, no noticable shake. I'd say it vibrates just a hare more than my I6.
