HVAC Guys

Our air conditioner is acting up. When you go and turn it on with the thermostat on in the house, But outside at the a/c unit it dont turn on, it may take up to 30 minutes to an hour for the fan to kick on outside. Im not sure of the model, but its a Coleman brand. Could it be the thermostat in the house not working right?

If your furnace fan comes on Hi speed for cooling, then the problem won't be in the the thermostat or the 4-5 \ 18 awg wire running from wall Tstat to furnace, but I'd check the 2\18 awg wire running from furnace to outdoor unit (condenser).

If you feel you are up for the task you could pull the cover off the Condenser and set furnace for cooling and look at the contactor on the condenser and give it a push in to see if compressor comes on as well as discharge fan...

Or could just call for cooling on the stat and listen at the condenser for contactor or compressor to kick in.. sounds like the Fan motor is cooked or on the fritz...

Right now I just turned it onto cool here in the house, the blower in here is working, walked out to the unit and the fan on top isn't doing anything and there is no hummmm. I did however hear it click a few times while out there.

Yea sounds like compressor could be giving you issues or even a bad contactor if by chance you have a multimeter you could test for continuity thru the contactor (WITH OUTDOOR DISCONNECT IN OFF position )or check for 220Vac output from contactor with disconnect in ON position.

If you can here the click click that's the 24Vac pulling on the 220Vac Contactor , so from the T-stat to the furnace seems good and from furnace to Condensor seems to be doing what it's supposed to do, if you know the age of the unit perhaps it will be a warranty issue, with a labor allowance, if it's off warranty perhaps better call a Tin Wacker (HVAC Tech) to have a look....

Good Luck, let us know how you make out !
