Does anyone know if ford put a 8 in wide factory rim on a truck. I want to lift my truck and put new tires on it, but i"m cheap and don't want to spend a fortune on new rims. My truck is a 99 and I hear that the 05 rims will not fit. People say the backspacing is differant, but how much. If i know the differance I can make a spacer to even it out. Also I've been told that you can't fit 37's on a 4" lift. I know a guy at work with a dodge lifted 4" with 37x12.5 bfg on hummer h2 rims and he has no problems. I could use all the advise I can get. Trying to pick out a lift and tire combo are driving me crazy.
I dont know how much you consider to be a fortune, but I got a set of centerline forged wheels (3200# rating) for 159 a piece. That was in the 17x9 variety. Im running 285s in the 17" wheel, and am very pleased with the setup. They look somewhat like the stock 5 spoke aluminum wheels, like on my uncles excursion. Also, if those arent your style, go upto wheels, and find their overstock section, put in 99+ fords 8 lug, and browse away, at whats reasonably priced! BTW if I remember right, the wheel I bought lists for somewere in the $400 each range!

Truck looks good. I don't know why but I wanted to put a factory rim back on the truck. There is a guy on ebay selling stock rims for 200$. Which allows me to spend more money on tires and lift. If ford only put a wider rim on my truck I would have no problem putting the tires I want on my stock rims.
I don't think factory wheels were ever 8" wide. Tires that are 12.5's will mount up on a 7" wheel......but it's really stretching the limits. Ebay and Craigslist are a good place to watch for some cheap rims. Don't go the cheap route, go the SAFE route, get at least an 8" wide wheel
Thats why I wanted to go with a stock rim. I saw that the 05 rim is 8" wide, but can't remember if it's 17" or 18" tall. I don't tow much so a 12.5" tire on the 8" rim should be ok, but people say they don't fit on a 99.
Yea i'm not a big fan of spacers, but if the differance is not much off then I think it will be ok, but you never know. Nothing more fun then a tire falling off, or a nice wobble on the highway. I have a feeling that I am goint to have to bite the bullet and buy a set of aftermarket rims. Then my next problem will be to fit 37" tires on a 4" lift.
I didn't realize you wanted to do a 4" lift with 37's.........I'd leave your truck the way it is, save some major money and do it the RIGHT way. Don't put 05 wheels on it without spacers, you will be rubbing the leafs pretty major while trying to turn. And even with spacers......a 4" lift isn't enough to run 37's.......35's yes, but 37's will eat up your fenders pretty bad!
37s can fit if your not afraid of fender trimming. But they will definetely rub without it. I would not want to see 12.5" wide tires, on stock wheels. When I had 295/75 16s on, which were about 9" wide tread, 11.5" section width, I thought they crowned way too much, and wore out the center, long before the outside tread was worn. This limited the tires life IMO. The way I see it, a 12.5 tire should be on a 10" rim, and a 10" wide tire should be on an 8" wheel.
My current situation is 285/70 - 17 on a 9" wide wheel, with an 11.5 section width, which still gives me approximately 2" less rim, then section width. Im pretty happy with how things have lined up.
EDIT: CSIPSD (Joe) runs 4" of lift, with 37s. You may pm him to see what all he had to do to get to that point.
Heres his sig;
thanks for the info. I don't want to trim the fenders, so I guess I am stuck with 35" tires.6" of lift will put the truck too high to work out of the back. It sucks that a dodge can have 37" tires with only 4" of lift, and no trim needed. I guess you can't have everything.
