question about transfercase leak
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Oct-02 AT 05:09 PM (EST)]I have a 1990 F-150 4X4. The BW 13-56 transfercase leaks. It's not coming out around the shafts but were the rear shaft extension yolk connects to the main case. The question is if i take the shaft and the bolts out of the extension yolk, will it come off or can it only be removed with a complete overhaul?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 30-Oct-02 AT 05:02 PM (EST)]Yes It has a slip shaft and If I disconnect the driveshaft at the rear end it will slip right out of the transfercase. There is 4 "stared" bolts holding the extension yolk on. If I take these out it will come off???? I want to put a new gasket and put it right back on.

It should come off without any "convincing", just a light prying. Drain the fluid first, and be sure to have a pan under the housing when you pull it off, to catch any runaway parts.
