I'm sure this has been covered on here before and that there is a thread for engine swaps but after 2 hours of searching i would rather ask the guys here on the 4x4 forum who actually know what they are talking about since i got decent help with the D60 swap.
Heres the deal I have an 88 f-250 with the 5.0/302 FI with a 5 speed manual tranny that I totaly tore up this past weekend the motor not the truck or tranny.
I can get a great deal on a freshly rebuilt carbed 351 not 100% sure of type of 351 just yet only know its carbed. The motor only has about 2000 miles on the rebuild before he decieded to go with a 502 to run his tractor tires in our deep pits.
It's my understanding that the motor mounts should line up, if not no biggie I was going to replace the old ones anyway. but my biggest question is with the tranny and clutch. They were just rebuilt and i dont want to replace them if i dont have to.
So i guess my question is do i need to replace the tranny to match the 351 or am i good to go with the tranny with out to much fab work off the 302
Sorry for all the babble but I'm just trying to throw as much info out there as I can to get decent advice Thanks in advance
If its a 351W it will bolt right up. 351M will not fit 5.0 bell housing. Not sure about the 302 to 351W counter weights on flywheels. Will need to verify that.
Like stated, 351w will be direct bolt up... Will need the 351w flywheel though, as it uses a different balance weight... I believe its 28oz weight compared to the 14 of the 302... Not sure on that, my numbers are probably off... But you get the idea... Also what trans do you have Is it the m50d? If your builiding a wheeling rig, i really like the granny low 1st gear of my zf5speed.... Just something to consider.
