Ok..I just got a 77F150 to replace my 76F250 that's ate up.
The 76 has a 390 it with a 4spd tranny. The 77 has a 351M/400 with a C6 tranny in it.
I'm not sure how the 351M/400 is going to run. The previous owner parked it and didn't start it for 5+ years. It has a lot of carb problems and needs new heads.
My actual question is will the 390 bolt up to the C6 tranny...and if so do I need to buy any new parts ie: bellhousing...flexplate...and such???
No, it won't bolt up to the c-6. The bell housing is made on the c-6 tranny. My suggestion is to go find a 460 and install it where the 400 was and you will be happier. You'll have to buy some conversion motor mounts or get creative with some 390 mounts and there will be some other minor problems, but when you get done, you will have a pickup with plenty of power.
Why not use all the parts from the F250 and install the 390/4spd? That way you already have all the parts you will need to do the swap. If you go to another motor, ie 460, you will need more parts which equals more money.
Just my rambling thoughts

Well i just got done puttin the 460 in my truck and it was pretty easy takin the old 351m/400 and puttin in the 460. I am real happy with the 460. That would be the route i would take but hey thats just me. Also i have heard good things about 390's. Well let us know what u r goin to do
