460 Question

So I have read miles and miles of threads regarding external v internal balancing and I think I have the answer right. However, before I start buying parts I would like to confirm with the experts.............

I have a 1978 460 (internally balanced) (1978 F250 2wd) and would like to put a flywheel from a 1984 460 (externally balanced) on the engine. This will work as long as I switch the harmonic balancer and spacer right?

Internally balanced is done with the crank, if you add an externally balanced flywheel, and external front crank weight, it's gonna throw your assembly off. The dampener is the same for all 460s.

you can get the flywheel neutral balanced at any compentent machine shop. don't know if it would be economical compared to finding the correct flywheel, but is an option.
