bangin down under

I have some racket in my 88 460 coming from either the back of the pan or the bellhousing. Presently the motor run fine oil pressure is at 40 at warm idle and 58 warm cruise. The noise goes away when the auto tranny is put in gear. If I spun a bearing would I have good oil pressure? I am going to check the flex plate first and go from there.

Either a broken flexplate or loose convert bolts or nuts.

Well I pulled the starter and found that the torque converter and flexplate were tight so I figured it must be from the crankshaft so I pulled the oil pan. I could not find any up and down play in the connecting rods at the crankshaft but I think I did find a pair (rear) that had more front to back movement on the crankshaft than the rest. How much front to back play is too much? Is there a way to reduce the play if it is beyond spec? Is there anything else I should be looking for?
