Another keyless entry question
Included in the manuals and paperwork was a card with the permanent keyless entry code. I have not yet crawled under the dash to see if that number is on the outside of the computer (as I've learned here).
There is NO keypad on the door. I've been involved with auto repair for decades and am confident that the driver's door is original. No evidence of bodywork or paint -- the hinge bolts don't appear to have ever had a wrench on them.
Anybody know why there'd be a card with the "permanent keyless entry code" and yet no keypad on the door?

Unless that card matches the code on the computer...
Ford came along and started adding a keypad that allowed you to enter a code to unlock the doors if you didn't have your keys or the keyfob. This keypad was a seperate option from keyless entry on the 99-04 Super Duty. In 2005 the keypad and keyless entry options were combined together and called the advanced security group or something like that.
Ford has two different ways of adding the keypad to a vehicle. One is a hard wired system that ties directly into the power door lock system. This keypad is very thin and only sticks out about 1/8" from the door skin in front of the door on the Super Duty.
The other way is with a stick on keypad. This keypad works just like your standard keyless entry keyfob, except you have to enter a 5 digit code before it will send the radio signal to the vehicle for it to unlock. This keypad is much thicker at about 3/8 to 1/2" thick. Most of the people I have known to add this to a Super Duty have installed it above the door handle, between the handle and the window.
I am guessing that the card for the keypad that you found was for a stick on keypad that the previous owner had installed on the truck. The batteries probably stopped working and someone took it off and threw it away rather than replacing the batteries.
DonJamer has a good point about the possibility they just handed you the wrong owner's guide packet as well. Were there any other Super Duty trucks on the lot when you bought that one? Did any of them have the keypad on the door?
I prefer the truck without the keypad but have just been puzzled about the card.
