Just got back from holidays. I took my wife to Paris for our 20th wedding anniversary.I will tell you about the good parts first. Had a great time. Took several tours of France and the country sides. Went to some night shows. Ate at some nice restaurants and visited the other popular places in Paris.Thats the good part. When we arrived we had to get to a travel agent by 6:00 pm that evening to pick up our subway passes that we prepurchased. In a rush we headed to the subway to get to the travel agent.Never riding in a subway before we where a little lost and turn around. A very nice looking collage type girl asked if we needed help.We accepted the offer and see showed us on a map how the system worked. We got to our last stop and walked up to street level. I reached for my wallet to get the address and only to discover that my wallet was gone.Credit cards, bank cards, phone card, drivers licence, birth cert, heath card and a very large amount of cash. It was in my front lower shorts pocket with a large velcro seal. I did not feel a thing or even notice it happen. I was warned about this being a proplem. But I thought in my front pocket velcroed in I should be fine. I had a money belt with me but with the rush to get to the travel agents on time I thought I would be fine and start using it when got back to the motel. We contacted all tha card companys and nothing had been charged. Now we have to go though the pain of trying to get everything else replaced. So everyone please protect your valueables all the time. Dont think it will never happen to you. It did happen to me and it sucks.
Sorry for the long story. But I think we all need to know about these types of things.
Reg, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Something like that can ruin your holiday. All your documents can be replaced eventually but the cash is gone. I don't know if there is any completely safe place to carry your valuables. Hope everything work out for you and you have better luck in the future. By the way, congrats on your 20th. We leave this Sunday for a 7 day cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Hope we have better luck.
I left my wallet on the counter at a landscape office. I just moved to the town and knew no-one. Came home and --here ---no wallet.....they called a day later and held it for me and a lot of cash and all my misc. was still there.
I now do alot of business with these people. HONESTY PAYS!! Bill
Sorry to here that you were nicked. The same thing happened to me in the Orlando airport in 1984. I always keep my wallet in my ft pocket when traveling.
Sorry to hear of your bad experience, but now I feel better. We travelled to Paris, and yes the subway is a nightmare. Needless to say I got scammed when buying subway pass, by a "helpfull" stranger. Skimmed me for $ 150.00
This is related my sister inlaw just had her car broke into yesterday at a therapy clinic.
She ran in to make an appointment and had her side window busted out and purse stollen with all the contents.
Its the third time in a week its happened at this location and people saw them do it but no plate number.
They are cruising lots and just waiting and busting windows and taking off in a car. Theres three to four people in the car doing it.
They have them on store security tapes using the stollen credit cards.
Its not a bad neighborhood either.
