lol not sure i tryed the IPR and not the ICPcorse it wont start with it un pluged... guess im thinking IPR is the problem and thats why i pulled it...you may be on to some thing Brandon...ill get a email Jody and see what he has to say...
Tachometer
The Tachometer is controlled by the instrument cluster. The cluster receives electronic information, via SCP communications, from the PCM for the RPM of the engine. The electronic signal is a buffered representation of the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) signal.
An open or short circuit of the tachometer output wiring will result in an inoperative tachometer.
Do you still have the gray CPS laying around? You might stick it back in for a quick test just to see if that makes a difference. I think Brandon has the right idea though.
pulled the ICP..started truck she run ruff for a few seconds the smoothed out some what..no bounce in RPM..but have a much smoother idle with it pluged in. and rpm's bouncing.... ill do the CPS later on when i have time to mess with it..
If the only change has been your new bigger HPOP, I think it is in the programming.
Something is overcompensating and the tuning needs to be adjusted.
Just a theory, however.

i did the IH CPS just before the pump install but did not notice the problem till after the pump swap...ill try the CPS as soon as i get the time.also run a health check with AE....any tips on what to look for with AE?.i also e-mailed this thread to Jody in hopes he can answer this for me...thanks for your input Dan....it really bugs me...no SES no smoke..no spudder and no oil leaks...just a rpm bounce....the truck runs very smooth and strong,,if she cools just slightest bit at shut down..she dont bounce..it seems to be only at operating temps and only at idle..
Not really familiar with how the PSD is programmed.
But if I had to hazard a guess it is in the math that sends commands to the IPR.
I don't think that AE can get at that, but just read the output, that requires a tuner program that calls for some special licensing fees which in turn really jack up the price of the program.
.
I got that sort of information reading about my VAG-COM software which is very similar to AE, but written for VW/Audi. I can read output on everything, but can only get at a very few adaptation channels.
Did the new pump come with an IPR and solenoid? If so those are the only things that I can think of that would cause ICP changes and the RPM "bounce". I know it's tough to get to but try swapping IPR solenoid with the old pump. If no change then swap the IPR. I know this would be a real PITA but I can't think of anything else.
Of course if you are using the old IPR and Solenoid this post is useless.

Hopefully Jody will have the answer.
it is my old IPR...got a email back from Jody.he read the thread...he cant see how the tuning would have any thing to do with it..he said it would have to be a IPR or ICP problem...guess ill look for a new IPR and give it a shot...or just deal with it for now..like i said..she runs smooth and strong...just has that bounce and a little longer start up in the AM

Changing an IPR is a lot of work for bouncing RPMs, especially only a 50 RPM swing. Do you have a spare ICP?
no i dont but wish i had a spare for both...i may just deal with it...i want to park her this winter if cash flow will let me...
I have a new ICP I haven't put in yet. I will do that tomorrow. If everything checks out I will PM you. You can swap your's with mine to see if anything changes. How's that sound.

that would great Robin...hard to turn that down....thanks a lot....why are you changing it out???
