DP Tuner question

H14- I added the Isspro gauges in a 3 pod under the dash and it worked well for me. While I am very interested in fuel econ. I occassionally can't resist feeling the power of the 7.3 with the DP Tuner. I have found the tranny temp. particularly useful when towing my trailer in the mountains.
eatfish: I have experienced the same thing with slightly better fuel econ. in 60tow than 80econ.

Thanks for all the comments.

I believe you are correct. If I read it right, though, you order the pcm with 1 tune, and that's all you get.
Much better to go with the F5, and get an assortment of tunes.
My $0.02.

The chip is installed on the PCM board, allowing you the versatility of switching between up to 16 different custom tunes.
Buying a PCM flashed for a custom tune will only give you one tune, whichever one you chose to have flashed onto the PCM.
You can buy the F5 chip, wait a bit and buy the F6 chip, or wait a bit and buy a used F5 chip from those of us who will be upgrading to the F6 chip.
Just remember, if you get the chip (either one) you will have the ability to store up to 16 custom tunes on the chip. Getting a flashed PCM only gives you one tune.

If you haven't yet talked to the folks at DP Tuner, give them a call and you will get Jody or Diane and they will explain all the options and help you choose the best mod to accomplish the results you seek. They are very friendly and helpful. I have the F5 chip with 5 positions of power and the selector switch. I like it because you can shift between power settings on the fly. Some other options such as the SCT X3 Power Flash require stopping in order to change program levels. If you only want one economy Tune you can probably just get the chip with the desired tune and save quite a bit.

Only thing better would be if the Scangauge also had buttons to control the DP-Tuner chip.

The documentation provided on the manufacturer's site lists all the readings you'll get with just the OBDII port connection (it's under Ford Platform II).
Lemme know if you'd like to get rid of yours. No real hurry.

On another note, the DP-Tuner, as others have posted, seems to mess with the lie-o-meter.
On my first half tank after installing the tuner, my lie-o-meter was showing about 18 mpg. When I calculated it after a 21 gallon fill up, it was almost exactly 14 mpg, a discrepancy of 4 mpg.
Now, after a 30 ish mile highway trip it's showing 22 mpg. If I got an actual 18 mpg on that trip, I'd be delighted.
Anyone have any experience whether this discrepancy is linear? Meaning whether there's a standard factor that you can multiply the indicated mileage by to get the actual mileage?
Thanks.

Mine tends to read about 1.5mpg higher than actual in mixed driving. I usually use the readout to aim for higher mpg, rather than to tell what specific mileage I'm getting, so it's still remained useful for me.

I really don't believe it is linear at all. When I tracked mileage vs LOM with my Diablosport, the LOM said 19.1 on 60 E. I hand calced 17.4
. When I went to the 100 HP tune, my LOM was reading 21.4, but actual was 16.43.Your results may vary....
