i have a 2000 ford f350 powerstroke and it has a 4inch exhaust and cold air intake and a sniper programmer and i pull a heavy trailer about 11000 pounds and it seems like it pushes alot of air back into the air box when it shifts and it feels like third gear shifts 2 times
Just a stab but I think the pushing of the air is probably turbo surge and the shifting into 3rd twice is the tranny going into 3rd gear and the t/c locking up close together.
BTW, Welcome to the site. Stick around. Lots to learn here.
First thing i thought too Chris... can u give us a little bit more info on whats going on exactly, what it sounds like, how loud, how long does it last
The woosh of air you hear on shifts is excess air volume leaving backwards through the filter, because it's not needed. It does that all the time, just the stock box really muffles it. The second shift you feel is the torque converter locking, it feels more like a 5 speed in terms of acceleration is positive once the TC locks.
I use Sniper tuning (picked it up from David Lott) and make tunes upon tunes upon tunes for most PCMs out there for these 7.3s. Do you have the Commando or the Special Forces? The pre-made tunes in SF are a little (ok, mostly) rough around the edges and are your basic out of the box tunes. What PCM code did you tell them you had? If you're using SF, then don't get overwhelmed by the amount of questions they ask you while the program "builds" a tune....because a few of the answers you give don't do anything in the code anyway.
I think that Sniper (the Delta Force/Commando software) is as good as any other tuning software....only because it's exactly the same as everyone else's software....with a different name on it (and how it writes code to the "chip") because all of the tuning software stemmed from one "leak" in Ford and just got spread around to people who knew how to pirate it.
If you need ANY help in this area, let me know. I can email you a few different tunes and let you try 'em out....also give you some pointers.

Cody,
FWIW
PCMX has been around for a long time. Actually since 2000 when Kevin Timmerman wrote it. No one has pirated it. Alot of people purchsed it and Sniper was only one of many. It is however only as good as the defintion files you have. That is why there are different levels(or revisions) to it. Sniper has their own and others have their own. Next to SCT, Sniper has done a fine job at making the software more user friendly.

While I am not the most knowledgable person on tuners, I do know enough that if all I read about on websites that relate to a 7.3 diesel is to go with a dp or tw chip and tunes, then that's what I'm going to do. This is of course information that I read from the actual user stand point, not the seller or manufacturer. I left a message on the answering machine and sent an e-mail to dp-tuner, so you should be able to guess the company that I have chosen to go with. Some people choose one or the other based on their location to the supplier so that they can partake in a live tuning session. This may also be something for you to consider. Lastly, do your research and make your own decision. Best of luck in your search and welcome to the site!!

Just like Kris said:
