Im looking for a cam for my 400. Its going in my 79 F250 with 5.38 gears and 38" tires. I've narrowed the cam down to 2 choices...but which RPM range is better for me---->> 1500-4500 or 2000 to 5000??
this is simply a mud and trail truck.
thanx
Gabe
I would say the lower RPM range, but I'm no expert. More often when I'm muddin, I'm looking for low end torque for crawlin up hills or out of holes. I don't think I ever go over 4000 rpm.
If you call Comp Cams 1-800 number, they will help you pick out a cam for free. They are VERY helpful. They'll ask you about engine, gears, tires, intended use, etc... and selet the best cam for the application.
Good luck.

P.S. Also try the engine forums - they're really good at this stuff.
yea it all depends on what type of wheeling...for mud u need something with high reevs. for crawlin and trail riding, you want an rv type... your low gears will help out with low end alot though.
