slipping, before i order a kit...
ok, so this is actually the aod in my 84 5.0 capri, but since trucks use aod's as well and knowledge is universal...
the 91 aod in my merc slips, like really bad, and will erradically shift up or down a gear. i had slip before with a bad tv cable adjustment, but could immediatly fix it on the road. it seemed to get bad a few days after a minor flood that we had here in brush and i ended up treading about a foot of water for about 3 blocks. I was wondering if there is anything else i should check before i order a clutch and seals kit for it?

hard rain (freak storm) Flooding Creates Problems In Brush - Denver News Story - KMGH Denver, bad storm drain design. when i headed home from work there was a detour around the main road. i turned down a side strteet and ended up driving through water that was about an inch up my doors for 3 blocks at 15mph or so. (got out of it asap- no water intrusion into the engine or interior) but i think that it sucked some water up the vent for the tranny, but the fluid hasn't been milkish. just burnt.
i really wasn't expecting the stock tranny to hold up forever, i've had plans on a 5 speed, but right now i need her back on the road. so i was gonna toss napa clutches and seals into the aod along with a shift kit.
the car has 3 inch pipes, and not much for mufflers, i was able to hear the electric fan over the engine...

Ive heard of people getting a few extra miles out of a tranny by adding some trans-x. Personally I like changing the fluid and filter but if your oil is that black and your tranny is that far gone you might want to keep whats left of the clutches flowing with the oil.
