Hello All,
I'm new to FTE and hope I'm doing this right but now I have a problem. I've got a 1995 F150 ExtraCab 4WD, auto, 351V8 with 121,000 miles in excellent condition. On a short trip to the dump and about 3 miles from home - the ABS light came on as well as the red brake warning light. By the time I parked it in the driveway the right rear wheel was smoking - obvious the brake was engaging but the truck did not handle or brake any differently. I do the basic maintenance stuff and replace brake pads but past that I've left the brakes to the pros. In this case, I'm not sure I can drive it anywhere with smoking something else.
Can anybody shed some light on what I can or should do? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
check your ebrake cable to make sure your ebrake is not on. check to see if loosing brake fluid maybe wheel cylinder is leaking or brakes came apart or bad axle bearing and seal is bad look for oil on brake backing plate
after it cools off drive it a little(just down your street) then see if it has any heat to it. i had a brake do this once, then after it cooled off it never did it again.???????
I've had rear brake pads come apart and get wedged up in the drum. Maybe that's what's going on. Only way to be sure will be to open the drum up and have a look.
Yeah, you need to pull the wheel and drum off and see what's going on. If the wheel comes off easily and there's nothing obviously wrong, then your ABS valve has probably clogged up. If the drum won't come off then your brakes are over-adjusted.
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. First thing I'm going to do is jack her up; check the cable; see if the wheel turns normally. If not, I will pull the drum and check everything else.
Thanks again!
