I am at the stage to put this thing back together now. I have a 1990 F-150 4x4 and I have the front end completely apart. I am ready to put the radius arms back on but I am having trouble finding new coil spring studs/ radius arm bolts. is there any aftermarket parts store in Canada that would carry these? Ford dealer seems not to have any lately?
Any help is good help.
Lordco... no luck. Ford Canada and USA....no luck. Against my better judgement, I am going to have to clean the threads and re use the old ones. They are not in good shape anymore and required lots of heat to remove them.
Just checked LMC website and they too do not list the elusive parts I am looking for. Seems with them they have every other bolt and nut and then some. Great site but a no go for me.
I believe people are replacing the radius arm to I-beam bolt with a threaded rod. Not sure if you can get grade 8 threaded rod, but that's what I would look for. If a Ford dealership can get that bolt, I'm sure it will cost an arm and two legs.
When I did my Son's 94' I went to a local suspension supplier/rebuilder known as Diaz Spring. They are located in Erie Pennsylvania, 364 W. 12th Street, 814/452-3259. They will either have it, can get it, or will manufacture it. I cannot find a web site for them but a phone call may take care of your problem. Good Luck!
Mcanik,
Not to lecture, but stick to your better judgment and use new studs. Alz above has a source that you can order from. The studs for this application surely are heat treated and "required lots of heat to remove them" will have seriously reduced their strength.
I think that I am just gonna get a grade 8 ready rod 3/4"x 3 1/2, drill the spring seat and spring keeper out to 3/4" Seems easier to get. Is this viable? I don't have time. I got Ltd entry moose hunting that starts on the 10th of September and before that there is scouting to do.
Done and better! The fix is now a prime grade 11 stud (each side) 3/4" coarse thread cut to the length of the old studs. Drilled the spring seat and lock ring to 3/4" then bolted it all together with grade 8 nuts and lock washers. I am going to keep my eye on it loosening but I am sure it will be just fine. I am never going to try and find those studs again. almost impossible. Truck looking mean now with the extra 2" lift. I am gonna miss her. A friend bought her.
