Many of us have used 99-04 Super Duty front springs, with great results. In some cases used springs can be found for a reasonable price.
While some like the custome route, others may try new things.
Here is a guy that used some used SD fronts under his 78, and is still working out the bugs.

Feel free to cruise around my photobucket, and get some ideas. Some good, some, not so good, but ideas none the less.

Because you have an early truck, you will have narrow rear springs. I opted to use longer chebby rear spings with a shackle flip.
Also because you have an early truck, these springs are not a direct bolt in. You will have to modify the spring bushings slightly, and you mat have to remove the "military wrap" leaf to get it to fit in the front hanger. You will also have to make, or have made, longer shackles for the front springs. Stock SD shackles have been used, but fall a little short. Mine are 5.25 inches long, and might still be a little short. I do not want to add too much more caster, so I have to get back to the drawing board. Pretty easy to fix, but these are the slight bugs I have to work out for mine as well.
New front 8" Springs only ran me 500 bucks, and the 1st set of rear 64" springs ran me about 50 bucks, (bad memory), and the new rear springs were given to me by another FTE member (thanKs again ChaseTruck754).
All in all, I do not have too much into my lift, and I am pleased as pie with it. Rides very well on the highway, and has a real nice amount of flex.
Cant complain. I cant anyways.
